Bike
Basics
Manufacturer: Ducati
Model: Monster 696
Year: 2009
Type: Sport
My Bike's Name: Cookie Monster
Purchase Details: Purchased new - stock. Has on
board computer with clock, trip, lap, low fuel mileage features.
Engine Displacement (cc): 696
Number of Gears: 6
Final Drive: Chain
Cooling System: Air
Seat Height (unmodified): 30.3" (770 mm)
Carburetion Type: Fuel Injected
Fuel Capacity: 3.8 gallons (14.4 liters)
Weight: 355 lb dry (161 kg)
Comfort
(original set up)
Hand/Foot Controls: Easy to pull clutch, foot
controls are also easy to reach.
Seat: Stock seat is comfortable, low seat (which I
had to order) does not have any cushion and does not make ground reach any
easier. Its a little narrower in the rear so if you are taller you would
have more benefit.
Long Rides: Went on a long ride a couple of weeks
ago and my legs cramped up. Just have to get used to the different riding
position.
Handling
Highway Power/Zip: It ZOOMs. No problem keeping
up with traffic and getting out of trouble when lane splitting. Great
throttle response!
Tight Turns: Handles very well a slow speed turns.
Front end is very light and it feels more like I have to lean than steer.
Twisty Roads: This bike was made for the twisties!!!
Wind/Rain/Heat: Hugs the road well when wet and it
does not feel like I do not get blown around too much in the wind.
Braking Power: Very responsive and powerful compared
to my Boulevard.
Modifications
Made
What I Changed: Had the dealer lower the
suspension 1" which has made a huge difference. Took off the stock
mirrors and installed the CRG Lane Splitters...love them.
Added
Extras
What I Added: Red cargo net on rear seat.
Maintenance
What I'm Doing: Got the 300 check up by the
dealer and will be getting the 600 mile service in about 50 miles.
Conclusions
What I Think: At first I thought I had made a
huge mistake in purchasing the Duc, I thought it was too much m/c too
soon. After a few rides to work and back I have gotten used to the riding
position and performance handling the Monster. Can't flat foot it but maneuvering
it is getting easier.
